“The people of Michigan amended the state constitution [in 2018] to give all voters the convenient option of voting early by absentee ballot without a reason. The amendment also allows people to still register to vote even on Election Day and makes other improvements that strengthen our democracy,” Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said. “If your community is holding an election, I encourage you to cast your ballot when it works best for you.”
The new policies added to the state constitution in 2018 by ballot initiative include:
- straight-ticket voting
- automatic voter registration
- same-day voter registration
- no-excuse absentee voting during the 40 days before an election.
Each of these policies make it easier for everyone to vote by removing many of the barriers that have kept people from voting. See the Secretary of State web site for more information.
